U. II. Metzgar. of 1'aiarito has just returned from a tour of the county, west of the river, in aid of the movement for a free bridge across the Kio Grande at this point a public improvement wulch was suggested and aovocatea aome time ago by The Dm- cxkat, and which is imperatively de- ruanueu oy tue wet Interests of the people of nearly all sectious of the country. Mr.

Metzgar carried with him a oeti. tion drawn by the people of bis neigh borhood, in favor of this much needed improvement, and which, he informs us, was unanimously signed by the peo ple in "'I tne plazas and settlements Hint he visited. He went to Mil the settlements on the Rio I'uerco. from San Ignacio to Veutaua, and then crossed the divide, coming home by rfay of Corrales, and he informs us thdt people of all these. n.uw..i their approbation ot the movement iu favor of tills much needed public improvement, aud every householder from Ignaclo to Corrales signed the pe tition, and will go to work earnestly industriously to secure the accomplishment of this much desired em1, furulab the people of the county that they are obliged to come to Albu querque to purchase all their supplies and transact all their business, ami that the paying ot bridge tolli, both ways, is a very heavy tax upon then slender resources, that It Ireqiienlh deters them from making trips to low business which they ought to attend and greatly retard the develop went of the country immediately we the llio Grande, which embraces large portion of the best farming l.m 1 I he county.

The people of Albuquerque are In terested in this subject fully as mm ji those of the county districts. Vf want them to come to see us just much as they want to come, and tin good work that has been started so energetically by Mr. Metzgar should taken up by the people of this city al point where be leaves ii and the petition from the leople of the country should be supported by one of similar character from the citizens of Albuquerque, thus showing the county board that the people on both sides of tlie river are a unit favor of this very important public improvement. And it can be readiy shown that such a work will, in the end, not cost the tax payers of the county cent, because the enhancement the value of property in all the districts along tbe west side of the river wUI be so great that It will add to tu 1 county revenue a good deal more thai: sum required to pay theinterest 0,1 bonds. Go on with the free bridge.

At this punt the people get all their water from an army well, In Hmertooe, while the people of all the other settlements derive their water supply from the aceauias. The fact that those who use only'limertone" water are compiu ative- lyfree from the aiseaae.wnue tnoae using soft water are subject to it, may give physicians and scientific people a hint which wUI put them on tbe trail the cause of this disease, and enoblo them to tell us how to prevent It.
